Natural Coconut Lime Deodorant

Due to the health dangers of commercial underarm deodorants, I gave them up years ago. To find out more about what we are putting in and on our bodies, check out the Environmental Working Group's Website. There is so much beneficial information there for you and your family :)

Anyways, I started experimenting with many of the natural deodorants on the market but never found one that worked well with my body chemistry. It was also challenging because for the last several years, I had been sweating profusely mainly because of a thyroid issue. No matter what product I used, I would be drenched by midday. I even gave up wearing deodorant and just used pantiliners in my clothing as a sweat shield until a dear friend gave me some homemade deodorant. It actually worked better than anything I had ever tried. I was so grateful for such a thoughtful gift!

For spring and summer, I just made a tropical smelling deodorant that contains only 4 ingredients:

Coconut oil. Moisturizing and an anti-oxidant with anti-fungal/anti-bacterial properties.

Arrowroot powder. Provides a silky smooth texture.

Baking soda. Absorbs odors and wetness.

Essential oils. Contain antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties.

COCONUT LIME DEODORANT

(Makes 1/3 cup and lasts approximately 1 month)

2 Tbsp. organic extra virgin coconut oil

2 Tbsp. organic arrowroot powder

2 Tbsp. baking soda

6 drops therapeutic grade lime essential oil

Just mix all the ingredients together into a paste and place in a glass container. You can keep the deodorant in your bathroom. It does not need to be refrigerated unless you live in a hot climate where the coconut oil will melt if left out at room temperature.

To Use:

Scoop a pea size amount onto your fingertip and rub into your underarms. I live in Portland, Oregon where it doesn't get too hot so I keep my batch a bit crumbly by stirring it up. Then I pour a few crumbles into the lid of the container and just grab what I need.
