Lucky Lake

Lucky Lake, a lesser known treasure near Bend, Oregon is definitely worth a visit. The trailhead is located at mile marker 38 on the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. It is a 2.6 mile out and back trail, rated as moderate. Although, I would recommend visiting late summer to early fall due to swarms of mosquitos that hatch in the late spring or mid-summer around the Cascade Lakes.

My daughter and I recently hiked into the lake, and it was almost unbearable due to the mosquitos. The lake was a welcome reprieve from those pesky bugs and so warm, even in June. A perfect swimming spot! We were wearing shorts, and did not have repellent so got pretty eaten up. Before hiking back, we slathered our legs in mud which helped tremendously.

There are many downed pines around the trail due to a beetle infestation that killed the trees years ago, yet still a beautiful area to hike through. Lucky Lake is also a great spot for anglers as it is quiet and peaceful without the crowds of some of the more popular lakes in the area. Below are some more photos from our hike.

Happy Hiking!
